Fake Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaut in a refreshed, jubilee version

Six decades after the Navitimer first flew into space, Breitling presents a refreshed version of the watch, dedicated to astronaut Scott Carpenter and the Mercury 7 mission.replica watches

On May 24, 1962, the Mercury-Atlas 7 mission made three full orbits around the Earth, thus saving an important stage in the conquest of outer space. The American astronaut Scott Carpenter was aboard the Mercury with the first Swiss spacecraft on his wrist. This watch was a Fake Breitling Navitimer specially commissioned by Carpenter with a 24-hour dial. Thanks to this, in fact, a simple solution, it was easy to see whether the Earth is currently day or night – everything in space is shrouded in black.

After a few hours of flight, the capsule with Carpenter on board safely landed in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. As rescuers took a short time to reach the astronaut, the watch, fastened on the wrist and exposed to salt water, suffered some serious damage, including extreme corrosion of the dial.

Carpenter got a new copy, and the “space” one (photo above) ended up in the Breitling archives – and has remained hidden there until now. On the occasion of the Mercury 7 mission anniversary and the new limited edition of the Navitimer Cosmonaut, Fake Breitling has for the first time to the public a heavily corroded historical piece. Fortunately, the new Cosmonaut is a fully functional, carefully crafted model.

The Cosmonaut version differs from the standard Navitimer only with the aforementioned 24-hour dial. This means that the hour hand makes one complete revolution around the dial a day. The 24-hour scale with indices in beige luminous helps to read the current time. The rest of the watch is in fact a typical, well-known design with a black dial, three dials arranged in a 3-6-9 arrangement, a date at 6 o’clock and a white slider that surrounds the whole.

Navtimer Cosmonaut a.d. 2022 is made of steel and measures 41mm in diameter plus 13mm in thickness. To emphasize the uniqueness of this edition, Fake Breitling mounted a rotating bezel made of platinum from the top. At the bottom, the case is closed with a caseback with a glass window, and behind it you can see the work of a manual mechanism.

The caliber B02 is a hand-wound version of Breitling’s flagship movement, the caliber B01. In the manual version, it has a power reserve of 70 hours, a balance clocked at 4 Hz, a column wheel, a date display and a COSC chronometer certificate. The Werk is nicely decorated, and on the bridges there are additional gold engravings reminding about the dedication of the model – the Mercury mission logo – Aurora 7 and the name of Scott Carpenter. The Fake Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaut will be made in a strictly limited series of 362 copies, not individually numbered, but only with the annotation “One of 362” on the caseback. You can choose between an option with a leather strap or a steel bracelet. In the first variant, the watch costs PLN 48,500, in the second, the price increases to PLN 50,100.
