If there was ever a list of the best watch designs of all time, the Tank, one of Cartier’s most recognizable models, should also be there. Tank is so perfect that despite its old age (it was created over a hundred years ago),

its design has not aged at all and is one of the most frequently copied designs of the 20th century. and the last one was sold in January 1920).

Since its inception, Tank has appeared in so many variants that today it is difficult to count them. However, they all shared the same recognizable style. In 1922, Louis Replica Cartier designed a version that had a square case and the two horizontal “bars” at the top and bottom made the watch appear larger. The appearance and name of the model, i.e. Tank Chinoise, referred to the element inspired by the designer, i.e. the shape of the entrance gate to a Chinese temple (in the 1920s, Chinese motifs were very fashionable, hence Louis Cartier’s interest in them).

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Tank Chinoise and the watch is back in two versions from the Cartier Privé line. What’s behind this name? Well, Cartier Privé is a special collection designed with collectors in mind. It includes the most famous Cartier models, which are available only in limited series. To date, Cartier Privé includes, for example, Crash, Tank Cintrée, Tonneau, Tank Asymétrique and Cloche de Cartier. The Tank Chinoise is the sixth watch to be awarded in this way and,

as I mentioned, it is available in two variants: classic, associated with the prototype from one hundred years ago,

and very effective, with a skeleton mechanism visible under the original ornament.

Let me start with the classic version: it has the almost square case (39.49 x 29.2 mm),

which is typical of the Tank Chinoise model, made of gold (yellow or pink) or platinum. The housing is decorated with two characteristic “bars” located in its upper and lower parts and the decorative crown,

typical for Replica Cartier, with an embedded sapphire, and in the platinum version – with a ruby. The bright dial closely resembles that of the historic model,

showing radiating Roman numerals between the rectangle in the center and the clearly marked track-style minute scale on the periphery of the dial. The hours and minutes are operated by two blue hands (in the platinum version,

the hands are in the color of the case),

powered by a hand-wound 430 MC caliber, developed in-house. This very flat caliber (only 2.15 mm high) has a 38-hour power reserve and has a balance of 21,600 A / h.

The classic Tank Chinoise comes from a limited series (each of the three versions will be made in 150 copies; all have straps made of alligator leather with a semi-matte finish).

The next three versions have even more Chinese accents. The first one is part of a limited series of 100 pieces. She received an envelope made of yellow gold (39.5 x 29.2 mm),

which is decorated with two “bars” covered with black varnish and a crown with embedded sapphire. However, it is not the case, but the dial that attracts the most attention. It is dominated by two colors:

black and red (black and red varnish), and the shield is in the form of an unusual ornament referring to the appearance of traditional Chinese windows. Beneath this decorative “window” you can see the hand-wound, skeleton caliber 9627 MC, which is 3.9 mm high (made in-house). This caliber was specially developed for the Tank Chinoise and has a power reserve of 38 hours. Its balance works with a frequency of 21,600 swings per hour. In this version, the Tank Chinoise model is offered with a gray and red alligator leather strap (semi-matte finish).

The other two variants of the jubilee tank are made of platinum:

one is from a limited series of 100 pieces, and the other – jewelry, from a short series of 20 copies.
