The Fake Rolex 5513, the review of a collector’s model
The passion for watches involves everyone indiscriminately, women and men. I’ve always cultivated it, ever since I started wearing a watch on my wrist. In my opinion, it is the only “jewel” granted to a “gentleman”. It is a feeling that resists time and the unstoppable spread of new technologies that are transforming the way we interact with the objects of our daily life, including the watch and its functions, almost overshadowing its primary role : that of measuring the inexorable passage of time and making it gentle through the beauty and harmony of shapes, materials, dials, hands.
The offer of watches today is boundless in terms of models and styles, they all generally offer very good content and quality, but, in my opinion, there are few icons, those that retain an eternal charm and, indeed, increase it thanks to the succession of versions and variations triggered by progress (materials, finishes, functions). These watches return to the wrist that intense and almost impalpable pleasure of wearing something unique and not, simply, a meter of time, steps, weather.
The unique charm of the watch brand with the crown on the dial.
At the top of this category there is undoubtedly the Fake Rolex Submariner, in particular one of its vintage references, the Rolex 5513.
It is a true symbol of the sports category and is, among those I own, one of my absolute favourites. I must admit that this watch entered my collection somewhat by chance, in a period in which I did not consider the brand as my first choice, because I considered it too “obvious”, also aimed at non-watchmaking enthusiasts. And then to time only watches I have always preferred chronographs, aviator’s watches, pilot’s watches, etc… This specific watch was purchased by my wife, also a watch enthusiast, less curious than myself about the story they hide.
In fact, one day I decided to try it, while I was with her, and the spark immediately struck. This Rolex quickly became “my” 5513. Numerous variations of this historic model were produced from 1962 to 1989, when the “modern” models arrived. A dedicated article should be written about it. In this case we are talking about a Rolex 5513 “Matte Dial, Feet First” no data, for those who are fond of references and nomenclatures, the version produced in the period 1969–1982 and ancestor of the modern Rolex 114060. Technically simple, they struck me from the first instant wearability and comfort, such as to give me at certain moments the sensation of being without a watch on my wrist. Analyzing its design in depth, the distinctive aesthetic elements are the 40mm case with straight and tapered lugs, the 7mm crown and its rounded protectors; finally the glossy black enamelled bezel.
Inside, the dial is matte black, with large tritium indexes, characterized by a light yellow color that has become an intense ocher color over time. The glass is slightly curved plexiglass. The bezel and shape of the plexi glass recall, in a side view, the profile of a flying saucer, perhaps it is simply the suggestion of those who were children in the 70s/80s. Waterproof to 660 feet or 200m, it features the 1520 caliber, without COSC certification (present on its predecessor, the Rolex 5512).
My personal Rolex 5513 is not a point of reference in terms of precision, but it is a certainty from the point of view of reliability, considering that it has never stopped and I had the complete overhaul done by Rolex out of zeal, given however, it is an operation that must be done periodically on any wristwatch. This version of the Rolex 5513 can be considered the last true vintage generation of Sub no data given that the subsequent model, therefore produced from the early 1980s, then introduced substantial innovations, such as the shiny dial and the white gold frames around it. to the indices, approaching the design of the more “modern” versions identified by the 5-digit acronyms, or references.
